The Bridge
Ontem, assisti ao documentário The Bridge de Eric Steel de 2006.
Inspirado por um artigo intitulado The Jumpers (Tad Friend para The New Yorker- 2003) o diretor realizou um ano de filmagens nas redondezas da Ponte Golden Gate. Seu intuito: filmar os últimos momentos das pessoas que escolhiam aquele local como meio para o suicídio.
Além das imagens realizadas na ponte, foram colhidos depoimentos de parentes e amigos dos que se suicidaram.
É difícil dizer se me parece justo com aquelas pessoas que suas imagens sejam assim tão simplesmente filmadas e distribuídas. Quadro a quadro de quedas cinematográficas, a angústia ao observar a água, os movimentos hesitantes ao longo das grades. O suicídio é um ato solo que pouco compreendemos.
Mas compreendo o papel da Arte, da Comunicação e, principalmente, a curiosidade humana. Conseguimos nos identificar com aquelas pessoas reais que sofrem e não suportam suas dores. Devemos nos identificar com esses indivíduos porque a capacidade de nos sensibilizar com a realidade do outro é uma das condições para nossa sanidade social.
As dificuldades enfrentadas por aquelas pessoas são mais que cotidianas: problemas amorosos, financeiros, problemas de auto estima, perda de entes queridos, distúrbios psicológicos. Dores pelas quais passamos todos os dias e a dor pode ser surpreendente.
Qual é a linha que nos separa? Uma ponte. Talvez uma ponte não tão longa como gostaríamos de imaginar.

One of the greatest directors, in my opinion, a great artist, and an amazing photographer. Andrei Tarkovsky’s work is very special, with a higher sense for creating image as a dream. His movies are some kind dialogue with our subconscious. Paintings in motion.
That’s no words to describe his work, we need to feel it. Embrace it; for it seems to be in the geneses of what we understand of humam beings.
